At Tuesday’s monthly business meeting the Taconic & Green Regional School Board (T&G) finalized the format and dates for a series of community forums to be held during the month of October. The topic at each session will be: The Future of Our T&G Schools. All of the following meetings will be held from 6-8:00 PM:
Tuesday, October 8: Manchester Elementary Middle School (MEMS)
Wednesday, October 23: Currier Memorial School
Tuesday, October 29: The Dorset School
Wednesday, October 30: Flood Brook School
In addition to these four public forums, there will be an added session for T&G teachers and staff. The first community forum was held at the Sunderland Elementary School in September.
The T&G Board encourages the public to share this information with neighbors and friends. If people are unable to attend the forum in their community, they can participate in a session held at another T&G school.
Each meeting will cover similar information and be formatted the same way. Bennington-Rutland Supervisory Union (BRSU) Superintendent Randi Lowe will open the forum with a presentation on the current state of our education program with options for moving forward in the years ahead. After taking questions from the audience on the presentation, the forum will be opened up for general comments from the public.
The T&G Board will also accept written comments from people unable to attend or who prefer that mode of communication. A google form will be created and will be made available at the first forum at Manchester Elementary Middle School on October 8th and shared publicly after the meeting.
Since early 2022, members of the T&G Board, teachers, staff, students, parents and community members have participated in working sessions designed to gather information to address the challenge of improving the performance of our schools. The initial effort focused on the T&G middle school grades, but over time the work was expanded to include elementary education programs.
The public is encouraged to visit a web page titled “The Future of Our Schools” on the BRSU website for details about the work to date on this topic. The link can be found by clicking on the menu option of the home page.
“The T&G board wants to provide the public with information and hear from the community on this important topic,” says BRSU Superintendent Randi Lowe. “We are committed to providing the best education possible for our students and we look forward to hearing from you.”
