From the Principal’s Corner
Education with Integrity - The following will receive an “Education with Integrity” award certificate as well as their choice of a book, poster, puzzle or pen. Keep up the good work!
Kaylee Ryssell – for always putting her best effort into her class work and homework
Travis Butler – for helping a classmate in time of need
Scott Stannard – for exhibiting exemplar performance in the classroom
Sixth Grade – for being creative, helpful and productive during art classes this week
Middle School Sports Pizza Celebration – On Thursday evening, May 15th, at 6:00 p.m. we will be holding trophy presentations at an informal gathering. The time was originally set for 5:30 p.m.; however, due to other sports activities, we are going to delay it one-half hour to encourage everyone to participate at the celebration.
Dress Code – I just want to put out a friendly reminder that during the warm weather students should continue to follow our dress code as stated in the Student and Parent Handbook.
Kindergarten Screening - We had a wonderful kindergarten screening today. Everyone seemed to have a great experience; it was both productive and informative!
Spring Concerts – The dates for our concerts are Thursday, May 22nd (Band and Chorus) and Thursday, May 29th (School-Wide General Performance). Both concerts will begin at 6:30 p.m. The students have been working very hard to prepare for these performances. Please plan on supporting them in their accomplishments!
Summer School – Summer school will run from June 24th through July 31st. Hours will range from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays only. If you are interested in having your child attend, please contact Mrs. Mele.
Arriving on Time – At present, tardy arrivals seem to be increasing. Please make an effort to arrive at school before 8:15 a.m. In this manner, you will insure a timely arrival. Thank you for your cooperation in this area. I greatly appreciate it!
8th Grade Graduation – Our 8th grade graduation is scheduled for Thursday, June 12th, at 5:30 p.m.
After School Program - I would like to thank the teachers and staff who participated in our After School Program this year. They made it possible for the children to enjoy learning experiences, acquire new skills and have fun with their peers!
Last Day of School – The last day of school will be Friday, June 13th. We will have our Annual Picnic, as well as early dismissal on that day. Generally, parents or grandparents attending the picnic are free to take their children home with them. Please tell your child’s teacher before doing so. On Thursday, June 12th, it is also an early dismissal day (12:30 p.m.).
A Reminder to All Parents – According to school policy, if your child does not attend school, he or she is not permitted to participate in any after-school or extracurricular activities that day. The only exception would be if your child comes to school late or needs to leave early due to a doctor’s appointment; in this case a doctor’s note is required indicating the reason for the appointment and the doctor’s approval to participate in the extracurricular activity.

NOTES FROM THE DPV - The DPV hosted the faculty and staff appreciation luncheon today. The buffet lunch was prepared by parents representing every grade at The Dorset School. The faculty and staff enjoyed a quiet meal at beautifully decorated tables complete with tablecloths and flowers! The DPV gave each member of our school community a Dorset School tote bag as a token of our appreciation for all they do to provide a wonderful learning environment for our children. The DPV thanks Paula Hawkins for organizing this event!
GOLF TOURNAMENT - The Dorset School’s Class of 2008 invites you to the beautiful Lake St. Catherine Country Club on Saturday, May 17th, for a fabulous day of golf! This guaranteed-to-be-fun tournament will benefit the 8th grade class trip to the Adirondacks in June. The day begins at 10:00 a.m. with a shotgun start and scramble format. Cost is $60 per player, $240 per team, and includes 18 holes with cart. Team and individual prizes will be awarded, such as a round of golf for 4 with cart at Lake St. Catherine, $100 Orvis Gift Certificate and more. Please call Kris or John O’Leary at 867-4123 to register or with any questions. Hole sponsorships are also available at $100 per hole. Your business or family name sign will be made by Flying Cow Signs and will be very visible on the golf course.
